HERA United extends contract with Suus de Bakker

HERA United and Suus de Bakker have agreed on a new contract. The new deal with the defender runs until mid-2027.  De Bakker joined HERA United in January 2026 and made her debut in the home match against ADO Den Haag. Technical advisor Mark Coonen: “Suus de Bakker was a gift that came our way in the winter transfer window. Thanks to her professional mentality, she has developed enormously. She is a true leader and a top athlete through and through. I don’t think she has hit her ceiling yet, and that is why I am delighted that she is staying at HERA United — she is a true Hera.”  De Bakker: “I have had an absolutely wonderful time at HERA United over the past six months. Of course I am gutted about the relegation, but I have managed to come to terms with it. Now it gives me the motivation to bring HERA back to where it belongs — in the Eredivisie. […]

HERA United strengthens squad with Lucy Heij

Lucy Heij, born on May 15, 2006, in Gouda, will join the HERA United first team next season. The defender joins from Feyenoord and has signed a contract untill mid-2028.  Heij began playing football at the local club Bergambacht, where she grew up. Since 2021, she has been part of the Feyenoord youth academy, where she completed her entire youth development. In 2023, she made her debut for Feyenoord’s first team and went on to make 12 appearances. That same year, she also represented the Netherlands U19 national team at the European Championship.  Lucy Heij: “I have always found HERA United to be an interesting club with a great team and a strong belief. I hope we can quickly return to the Eredivisie, and I think it’s a great opportunity for me to play and contribute to the team. I’m looking forward to a great and enjoyable year.”  Mark Coonen, technical advisor at HERA United: “Lucy Heij is a talented central defender with a strong defensive profile, a solid foundation and clear potential. At 19, she is still highly developable. Her professional attitude and growth mindset make her a player who can help strengthen our defense in the coming years. […]

HERA United proud of historic first season: “This is only the beginning”

After a thrilling final day in the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie, it has been confirmed that HERA United will not compete at the highest level of Dutch women’s professional football next season.  The relegation is disappointing, but it does not change what this club stands for, or what has been built over the past year.  HERA United’s first season was about more than football alone. As the first independent professional women’s football club in the Netherlands, HERA United was founded with an ambition that goes beyond the game itself: bringing women’s football to where it belongs: in the spotlight.  And we are proud of that.  Proud of the players who gave everything every single week. Proud of the staff and everyone behind the scenes who kept building. Proud of the partners and supporters who believed in HERA from day one.  Because this is what HERA United stands for: not waiting for change, but creating it ourselves. Every single day. Step by step.  Marieke Visser, founder of HERA United: “Our story is about much more than football. It is about creating opportunities, making dreams come true, and building something bigger than just one season. We made history as the first independent professional women’s football club in the Netherlands, and that mission does not change because of relegation. Right now it hurts, but moments like these show what HERA United truly stands for.”  Susan van Geenen, co-founder and CEO: “This relegation hurts. But once the disappointment settles, […]

International Women’s ‘Day’?

For us, it’s not a moment. It’s not just one day a year. It’s every day.  We don’t wait for change. We create change ourselves. We give women opportunities and visibility on and off the pitch.  And what we see as normal in football should become normal beyond it, too.  HERA United is the Netherlands’ first independent professional women’s football club. A […]
