About Hera

AboutHERA United

HERA United is the first independent professional women’s football club. We put women’s football in the spotlight—sportingly, commercially, socially, and culturally—by raising the bar in everything we do. We are determined to accelerate the development of women’s football—our HERAs—and in doing so, contribute to the growth of women’s football in the Netherlands.

Our Core Values

Brave and Determined

Proud and Strong

Progressive and Connected

History

In 2023, Marieke Visser began planning for her own club. With Barbara Barend and Susan van Geenen as co-founders, this dream became a reality in September 2025, when HERA United made its debut in the Women’s Eredivisie.

HERA United took over the women’s football license from Telstar Vrouwen and, in collaboration, continued the youth academy in Haarlem.

Teams

In addition to a first team, HERA United has a reserve team in the Tweede Divisie. The HERA–Telstar Academy (HTO) is the joint youth academy of Telstar and HERA United. Our MO16 and MO17 teams compete under the Telstar banner.

HTO

The HTO forms the backbone of women’s football in Kennemerland and Amsterdam. The goal is clear: to sustainably develop talented girls into players who can progress to HERA United’s first team or perform at the highest level elsewhere.

The academy is player-centered, future-proof, and fully aligned with HERA United’s mission: to professionalize, strengthen, and inspire women’s football.

The HERA–Telstar youth academy believes in a development culture where elite sports and personal growth are inseparably linked. Development is not just a collection of training sessions but a purposeful process in which players learn to think, decide, and act like elite athletes. We work in a game-oriented way, with high intensity, deliberate choices, and room for reflection and enjoyment. We offer a player-centered education where learning by doing is the top priority.

Playing Venue

The first team and our reserves train and play at Sportpark Goed Genoeg, the AFC complex in Amsterdam. HERA United also aims to play matches at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. The HTO trains at DSS in Haarlem.

Working at HERA

Our mission is clear: to firmly put women’s football on the map and show that elite sports, ambition, and equality go hand in hand. We aim not only to win on the field but also to raise the bar for the sport itself—with a safe, inclusive, and inspiring culture where everyone can grow.

To achieve these ambitions, we are looking for strong and collaborative colleagues who are ready to take on significant responsibility in a growing organization. Want to see if we’re looking for you? Check our job openings here.
