HERA United proud of historic first season: “This is only the beginning”

After a thrilling final day in the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie, it has been confirmed that HERA United will not compete at the highest level of Dutch women’s professional football next season. The relegation is disappointing, but it does not change what this club stands for, or what has been built over the past year. HERA United’s first season was about more than football alone. As the first independent professional women’s football club in the Netherlands, HERA United was founded with an ambition that goes beyond the game itself: bringing women’s football to where it belongs: in the spotlight. And we are proud of that. Proud of the players who gave everything every single week. Proud of the staff and everyone behind the scenes who kept building. Proud of the partners and supporters who believed in HERA from day one. Because this is what HERA United stands for: not waiting for change, but creating it ourselves. Every single day. Step by step. Marieke Visser, founder of HERA United: “Our story is about much more than football. It is about creating opportunities, making dreams come true, and building something bigger than just one season. We made history as the first independent professional women’s football club in the Netherlands, and that mission does not change because of relegation. Right now it hurts, but moments like these show what HERA United truly stands for.” Susan van Geenen, co-founder and CEO: “This relegation hurts. But once the disappointment settles, […]

International Women’s ‘Day’?

For us, it’s not a moment. It’s not just one day a year. It’s every day. We don’t wait for change. We create change ourselves. We give women opportunities and visibility on and off the pitch. And what we see as normal in football should become normal beyond it, too. HERA United is the Netherlands’ first independent professional women’s football club. A […]
HERA United’s response to the KNVB statement on the competition pyramid

The KNVB announced its decision to definitively reduce the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie from 12 to 10 teams as of the 2026/27 season.
