Ed Engelkes new head coach Telstar Women

Ed Engelkes has been appointed as the new head coach of Telstar Women with immediate effect.

Engelkes is an experienced and well-known coach in women’s football, including as assistant national coach of the Oranje Leeuwinnen (Dutch national women’s team) under Vera Pauw and as head coach of AZ Women and Ajax Women. “Engelkes has proven multiple times that he can build a team and lead it to success. With his extensive experience in women’s football, he should be uniquely capable of laying a solid foundation for the future. We are delighted with his arrival at Telstar Women and look forward to the collaboration on and off the field,” says Leon Annokkée.

“I consider it a great honor to step in at this stage,” says Engelkes. “Telstar Women has achieved a lot in women’s football with relatively few resources. Through the partnership with HERA United, the future looks promising. It’s a challenge for me to be at the helm and contribute to the development of this team and to get the best out of the players. I’m looking forward to it.”

HERA United is also enthusiastic about Engelkes’ appointment: “We see Ed Engelkes as the ideal candidate to help build the future women’s professional football organization. We think he can bring the calm and confidence to the squad that is needed now. His extensive experience in women’s football can be of great value to Telstar Women and HERA United in this partnership,” says Barbara Barend.

Ed Engelkes Engelkes was previously assistant national coach under Vera Pauw and Roger Reijners with the Oranje Leeuwinnen and coordinator of the national girls’ teams. From 2007-2011 he was head coach of AZ Women, with whom he became national champion 3 times. From 2012 to 2017 he was head coach of Ajax Women, with whom he won the KNVB Cup 2 times and became national champion once. From 2018-2024 he worked for Ajax in China and was Academy Director and interim head coach at Punjab FC in India. In his most recent role he was coach at amateur club VV Zeewolde.

Engelkes signs for the current season and the new 2025-2026 season.
